My pride was injured quite badly - Sachin

Sachin Khurana, Vanraj of fantasy serial Chandramukhi experienced his first fall courtesy his driver.

It was during the shooting of Sunil Agnihotri's Chandramukhi at Mahableshwar, when Sachin was riding his horse and it suddenly started pouring. Everybody got drenched. Naturally the shot was halted midway and left incomplete. Seeing that Sachin is not able to get off his horse suddenly and run for shelter, his driver hurried with an umbrella. As soon as Sachin's driver started approaching him and opened the umbrella, his horse panicked. It started stomping and jumping. Naturally, an inexperienced rider that Sachin is he could not control the horse and had his first great fall.

Quips a smiling Sachin, "I could sense the agitation of my horse and shouted to my driver, not to come too close with umbrella. But he would not listen. Naturally my horse jumped and I fell down. Thank god he did not bolt off, otherwise he would have dragged me along and I would have been badly injured. As it is my pride was injured quite badly."

Chandramukhi is the first serial where Sachin needed to ride a horse and had to learn the art of riding. Somehow, he never fell off his horse while learning but got his share of injuries because of somebody else's foolishness.

Shot at outdoor locations like Kulu Manali, Raj Pipla and Mahableshwar, Chandramukhi is a huge costume fantasy with a still bigger star cast of Deepak Parashar, Natasha Sinha, Krutika Desai, Mamik, Sachin Khurana, Nishigandha Wad, Amita Nagia, Goga Kapoor, Shiva, Sanjiva, Raja Chaudhray, Ram Mohan, Vinod Kapoor, Rita Jagtiani, Dinesh Hingoo, Ria Walia, Gunjan Pant, Mahindra Ghule, Manish Sharma, Savi Juneja, Yogesh, Anwar Fatehan, Jai Prakash, Shandar Amrohi With Vindu Dara Singh.

Conceived and Directed by Sunil Agnihotri, Chandramukhi is produced by Applause Entertainment Pvt Ltd. and telecasts on DD 1.

YRF and UTV to clash again?

Yash Raj Films and UTV clashed at the box office three months back but there was not much buzz about it.

Reason? While YRF's CHAK DE INDIA was a biggie that has now turned out to be the biggest box office earner of 2007, UTV's THE BLUE UMBRELLA was only for the niche audience and disappeared before one even realized that it had arrived.

It would be different though in the coming weeks as UTV's DHAN DHANA DHANA DHAN GOAL and YRF's AAJA NACHLE arrive. Even though it's not a head-on clash, the two biggies are spaced out by only a week. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, this John-Arshad-Bipasha-Boman starrer sports based film is set in UK and arriving with decent promotion on 23rd November as a solo release.

AAJA NACHLE which arrives a week later as a solo release too kick started it's promotion with a bang but has somewhat fizzled down in last few weeks. The publicity of the film doesn't befit a Madhuri Dixit comeback and one wonders what debutant director Anil Mehta is feeling around the release strategy of the film. The good news is the content though which is expected to bring in audience with word of mouth due to Jaideep Sahni being at the helm of the affairs.

Exclusive synopsis - Welcome

Dr Ghungroo is a highly respected doctor who lacks only one thing in his life - a suitable bride for his nephew Rajiv. Dr Ghungroo’s definition of suitable is very simple – the girl’s family should have an impeccable background and spotless reputation wherein forget going to jail, nobody has even been summoned to the police station!

For obvious reasons, every bridal interview ends with him storming off in rage and disgust. Rajiv seems destined to remain a bachelor.

Uday Shetty is a highly feared underworld don who lacks only one thing in his life – a suitable boy for his only sister Sanjana. Uday Shetty’s definition of suitable is very simple – the boy should be from a respectable family with a spotless reputation and no criminal connections. For obvious reasons, all the boys he interviews run away in fright when they realise who they are dealing with. Sanjana seems destined to remain a spinster.

Along comes a raging fire that plays Cupid and entices Rajiv and Sanjana to fall in love. Along comes a conniving Pandit who plays matchmaker by hiding a few truths.

Dr Ghungroo is ecstatic. Beautiful Sanjana is exactly what he wanted for Rajiv. Uday Shetty too is ecstatic. Handsome Rajiv is exactly what he wanted for Sanjana.

Then Dr Ghungroo learns the bitter truth - that Sanjana comes from a dangerous, gangster family.

And Uday Shetty also realizes the harsh truth - that no threats or gunshots will force Rajiv’s uncle into agreeing to this marriage.

Playing their own deadly roles in this marriage mayhem are trigger happy Majnubhai who prefers a paint brush to a gun and RDX, the baap of all dons, whose world revolves around his son Lucky and his two revolvers; and Isha cum Ishika who enters the scene as Rajiv’s childhood bride and ends up Uday Shetty and Majnubhai’s sweetheart!

Welome - To the deadliest, funniest shaadi of the year!!

Cast

Akshay Kumar is Rajiv. Disarmingly simple and straight, he falls flat when he sees Sanjana for the first time. Obedient to the core, he will never defy his uncle, but when he sees his dream of marriage with his dream girl going up in gun smoke, he realises he has to do something drastic to save his future.

Katrina Kaif is Sanjana. She is exquisitely pretty, but tough enough to carry an unconscious Rajiv through a raging fire. But even her brave heart falters, when her obstinate brother crosses swords with Rajiv’s equally stubborn uncle, and she sees her love being blown to smithereens.

Nana Patekar is Uday Shetty. This wannabe actor turned dreaded don has a silver tongue and can shed crocodile tears at the drop of a hat. If he has any weakness, it’s his only sister Sanjana. He will do anything and everything to make her happy, except give up his criminal ways.

Anil Kapoor is Majnibhai. His passion for painting live canvases puts lives and limbs at risk, not to mention his soft heart which stops just short of putting a bullet through your head and breaks it instead. He has made it his life’s mission to find a suitable groom for his bhai’s sister Sanjana.

Paresh Raval is Dr Ghungroo. All this highly respected doctor wants is a bride from a respectable family for his nephew Rajiv and when he finds himself cheated into an alliance with a girl from a notorious, gangster family, he will die rather than bend.

Feroz Khan is RDX. He is as explosive as his name. Living life kingsize, he struts his stuff in style, fires with both hands and loves his son lucky to death.

STRANGERS first promos arouses curiosity!!

The first teasers of STRANGERS, presented by Sahara One Motion Picture, starring Jimmy Shergill, Kay Kay Menon, Nandana Sen and Sonali Kulkarni is out.

The promos have already aroused the curiosity level and the intrigue value as expected from a well made thriller. The promos have created a stir and have made Bollywood trade sit up to this stylish thriller.

Aanand Rai who makes his directorial debut shows glimpses of a very promising career ahead with STRANGERS with not just the film's plot but its overall treatment, according well known Bollywood trade columnist Joginder Tuteja.

The promos have flashes of brief shots woven together for STRANGERS which appears to be a stylish thriller in the offering. Starring Jimmy Sheirgill and Kay Kay Menon in the lead, the film's storyline revolves around the two strangers who meet in a train and plan a shockingly devious inhuman plot. The emotional turmoil within them gets them involved in a dangerous and potentially deadly situation
Director Aanand Rai has utilized various cinematic techniques that has maintained the mystery and intrigue through several plot twists, as his array of believable and sympathetic characters. Insiders who have seen the rushes of the film rave about the outstanding performance from its principal cast, which makes it more realistic.

STRANGERS is a well crafted emotional thriller with a masterful blend of intense excitement, suspense, high level of anticipation, uncertainty, anxiety, and nerve-wracking tension.

Sahara Motion Pictures who are presenting the film will be releasing the film on November 30th, 2007.

Vinod Khanna makes a comeback with MERE APNE

More than 35 years after appearing in a sensitive film MERE APNE (1971) which was directed by Gulzar, Vinod Khanna is getting back into limelight with a namesake project. The only difference here is that this time around MERE APNE would be for the small screen.

To be beamed on newly launched 9X channel, MERE APNE is a daily soap by Smriti Irani who is not just producing the show but also enacting a principal character. Vinod Khanna enacts the character of Kashinath Pandey which is quite strong and positive man. A man tied to his traditional roots, Vinod Khanna's character is said to be attached to the old Indian way of living who expects similar 'sanskaar' in his children as well.

MERE APNE is set in Banaras with a substantial portion shot in the city itself. Incidentally this is not the first time that Vinod Khanna would be acting for a television soap. Years back he has acted as Maharana Pratap for TV though the project didn't quite take off.

SHOWBIZ moved to 2008

Vishesh Films didn't quite have a productive 2007 with a sensitive DHOKHA turning out to be a box office disaster and the much hyped (and extremely well made) AWARAPAN also unable to match the hype as far as the box office returns were concerned.

Meanwhile their SHOWBIZ which has been in the news for quite some time now has been pushed to 2008. Earlier the film was slated to come in the last quarter of the current year.

The film marks the directorial debut of popular choreographer Raju Khan along with lead hero Tushar Jalota. SHOWBIZ stars Mrinalini Sharma as the lead protagonist who was last seen in Bhatt's AWARAPAN. Gulshan Grover plays a pivotal role in the film, which as indicated by the title, exposes the underbelly of the glamour world!

Dus Kahaniyaan postponed

Sanjay Gupta's star studded DUS KAHANIYAAN, which all this while was looking all set for a 23rd November release, has been pushed to December. This Sanjay Gupta/Sanjay Dutt presentation would now be arriving on 7th December instead.

The music of the film was released around a couple of weeks back and is a success already. The film being pushed to a later date appears to be positive sign because not just the music will grow further but even the film would now have a cleaner run.

Earlier scheduled to arrive with UTV's DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL only to have AAJA NACHLE as competition in the week to follow, DUS KAHANIYAAN would now come with relatively much smaller KHOYA KHOYA CHAND, RAMA RAMA KYA HAI DRAMAAA and STRANGERS. Even the week ahead looks far more menacing as Shreyas Talpade's BOMBAY TO BANGKOK is the only confirmed release for 14th December so far.

JAB WE MET to benefit?

JAB WE MET, which had two consecutive good weeks, had to live with lesser number of shows in it's third week due to the arrival of OSO and SAAWARIYA. However, it seems that it may just turn lucky in the fourth week with talks around reduced shows of SAAWARIYA in days to come.

In fact unconfirmed reports also indicate that a few multiplexes are also contemplating reducing SAAWARIYA shows from Tuesday itself and instead adding on JAB WE MET if Bhansali's mega project sees a massive drop from Monday. This would mean that after OM SHANTI OM, it may be back to JAB WE MET as the second choice for viewers in days to come.

So far, JAB WE MET has turned out to be a clean hit with 20 crores already in it's kitty after two weeks flat just from India. In fact the second week collections have been almost identical to that of the first week since minimal drop was observed.

Semi nude Sonali in STRANGERS is emotional

In the film 'STRANGERS', presented by SAHARA ONE's Motion Pictures, Sonali Kulkarni has done the unimaginable. Sonali Kulkarni who has always got this girl next door image, has shed her inhibition and has dared to shoot semi nude in bath tub.

Sonali Kulkarni thus joins the gang of bollywood damsels like Mallika Sherawat, Neha Dhupia & Kareena Kapoor's controversial backless shot in their respective films.

According to a sources in the STRANGERS unit, director Anand Rai felt that it was a very emotional scene in a bath tub, and it was essential for the scene to be shot. He had also informed Sonali about the semi nude scene since it was an integral part of the film.

Initially he was a bit apprehensive if Sonali Kulkarni would do the scene but to his surprise, Sonali being very professional and accommodating agreed to expose, since it was a requirement in the script.

However the director ensured that only minimal people required for shooting the film would be present for the particular scene.

Sources add that director Anand Rai incorporated the scene in STRANGERS since it takes the story ahead. There were no intentions to add sleaze since the film is not based on sleaze but is a shocking tale of the protagonist being 'STRANGERS' in their respective marriages.

'STRANGERS' is about the emotional turmoil, mind games and a shockingly devious plot that forms the crux of the emotional thriller. The film stars Jimmy Shergill, Kay Kay Menon, Nandana Sen and Sonali Kulkarni.
